Deer/Queer Captured in the Neural Network
A.I, Videoart. 2025
Operating from the standpoint of “artificial stupidity,” the work uses computer vision algorithms trained with artificial intelligence to identify objects in a series of self-portraits of the artist. Unable to recognize the body in front of the camera, the system generates a list of objects it deems similar.
In a kind of becoming-deer/queer (devir-veado), the work raises questions about the LGBTQ+ body and desire through an algorithmic gaze that strips away its humanity. Amid statistical predictions, it also incorporates oracular prophecy and the inevitability of death, with a soundscape composed during the isolation period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
